Gem and Jo React to American Horror story; Season 1 Episode 1

We have never seen an episode of american horror story! We're kind of big scaredy cats but in order to entertain you lovely people we decided to watch the first episode of the program because we heard that it is the scariest and we are suckers for punishment. This is our reaction: (We advise you to watch with headphones on, there is screaming. Soz.)

Have you ever watched American Horror Story?

Gem, Jo and The Versatile Blogger Award.

Well hello there! Today we're posting something a little different to our usual! It's a tag post known as The Versatile Blogger Award, and we were so excited to be nominated by Libby from Chibby Beauty, who is just the sweetest for thinking of us!
If you're not sure what the Versatile Blogger Award is, it's a pass-it-on kind of thing, where bloggers who were nominated, choose 15 other bloggers that they believe are worthy of the award and then they pass it on too. And in the post you tell your readers 7 things about yourself. Simple!

For the awesome bloggers we nominate, here are the rules!

The Rules:
1. Thank the person who nominated you for this award and leave a link to their blog.
2. Tell your readers 7 things about yourself.
3. Link to 15 bloggers that you have recently discovered or read regularly.
4. Let them know you nominated them for the Versatile Blogger Award

7 Things about Gem:
1. I love crime tv shows, I watch nearly every single one of them.
2. I have a prescription for glasses for driving but I hardly ever wear them when I drive. Oops.
3. I've broken my ankle playing Badminton. And football. And when I was swimming.
4. Related to number 3, I'm the biggest clutz to ever walk the earth.
5. I won an award in Home Economics in Secondary school a week after burning the school kitchen down.
6. In about 3 weeks I'll have finished a degree and I still feel about 9 years old.
7. I have the weirdest best friend. She also happens to own half this blog. Awkward.

7 Things about Jo:
1. I've gotten my hands stuck in both an ice machine and a vending maching. Yes I am that clumsy.
2. I own over 50 pairs of sunglasses, all the same shape but in different colours, which is kinda weird since I now have to wear prescription sunglasses.
3. There's a running joke in college that I am fantastic at parkour, when the reality is that I can't even do a handstand!
4. I am just about to finish my degree but I still have no idea what I want to do with my life.
5. I love dogs and every time I see one I revert back into my five year old self
6. I am a tea-aholic. It doesn't matter what kind of tea it is, I will drink it, and I will drink it by the bucketful.
7. My best friend thinks I'm the weirdest but she decided to be friends with me so that doesn't say much about her sanity!

Bloggers we nominate:
Now, we know you're supposed to nominate 15 bloggers but we have been so slammed with college work lately that we haven't even had a chance to sit down and do some good ole fashion blog binge reading. But, here are a couple of the blogs that we've been loving when we have a minute to breathe:

Perfectfixations.blogspot.co.uk
Themixandmatchblog.com
missgeorgiee.blogspot.co.uk
madolynblackburn.blogspot.ie
evies365.blogspot.co.uk

Thanks again to Libby for nominating us. If you haven't go check her blog by clicking here

Gem and Jo Review Anne Weekes Camouflage Cream*

We all get bad skin days when nothing seems to work and we just feel like covering our heads with a paper bag (okay maybe not everyone gets like this but we can guarantee there's at least a few of us out there!).  Well recently we were introduced to this amazing Dublin based concealer company called Anne Weekes, and let us tell you, this stuff is a saviour.  Anne Weekes were kind enough to send us some of their concealers to try out and show you guys just how amazing they really are.
The concealer comes in 14 different shades so you are sure to find one that really suits your skin tone. There is also a green toned one which would be great as a base for cancelling out any redness. The website is fantastic for helping you pick out the perfect shade as each shade description has loads of information about the undertones of each colour and how they relate to other shades. You're not gonna end up looking like a oompa loompa on their watch.

With this stuff, a little goes a long way. Each pot of this amazing stuff costs €25.00 but it will last you ages. The teeniest tiniest amount will cover even the worst spots and blends evenly into the skin.

If you're still not totally sure what shade would best suit you after looking at all the shade descriptors, they offer samples which are €3.50 for the top seven shades and €7.00 for all 14. These samples actually have a lot of product in them and will at least last you up to a weeks worth of applications.

Anne Weekes also offer a finishing powder which makes their concealers waterproof. This stuff seriously works. We tried to scrub the concealers off our arms with water and it didn't budge at all. But a quick stroke of a makeup wipe and it is easily removed without any hassle.

We had heard that their concealer was also great at hiding tattoos. We had to admit, we were a bit skeptical when trying this out but we just follow the instructions and we were seriously amazed. We just put a base of green to cancel out the black and then used a concealer that matched the skin tone. VĂ³ila it had disappeared.

We were incredibly impressed with this product and would definitely repurchase it. It comes in so many shades, covers just about anything and we haven't had any negative skin reactions to it at all. Plus at €25.00 a pot, this stuff comes in at much cheaper than highend concealers that aren't half as good. It's goodbye to the paper bag head forever!

Check out the Anne Weekes website here.

Also shout out to Jenny for the use of her arm and tattoo. Thanks gurl.

Gem and Jo's Water of the Week - Apple and Grape.

It is a gorgeous bank holiday Monday here in Ireland at the moment (it actually isn't raining for once!), so what better way to enjoy the little sunshine we get than relaxing with a nice glass (or pitcher) of fruit infused water! Today's special; Apple and Grape!
Here's what you'll need:
An Apple!
A Handful of Red Grapes.

Thinly slice the apple and chop your grapes in two.
Chuck it all into some ice water and you're good to go!

Here's why this combo is good for you:
  • Grapes are a great source of potassium.
  • Apples are a great source of immune boosting vitamin C
  • Apples are a great source of antioxidants which help fight free radicals
  • Grapes can help to reduce blood pressure through anti inflammatory mechanisms.
  • Grapes are great for keeping your hydrated!
What's your favourite fruity water to drink on a sunny day?

Gem and Jo's Top 5 Under €5.

We've all seen our share of these kinds of posts, and yet here we are. Lets face it, we love these kinds of posts! Who doesn't love to see lots of different opinions on excellently priced beauty products! Plus it gives us plenty of ideas for when we inevitably end up in yet another drug store at the weekend. No judgement here, we are victims of the magnetic draw of a good make-up deal too! Who isn't?
Here's our top 5 beauty products for €5 and under!

MUA Perfect Matte Primer €3.49
This stuff is great for it's price! It instantly minimises pores and erases shine and keeps our faces lovely and shine free for at least 2 hours. That is pretty impressive when your face is as shiny as ours. This one's a keeper and is definitely in the 'will re-purchase' pile.

Catrice Absolute Eye Colour
Catrice have an amazing range of single eyeshadows and the colours are just gorgeous! This one is a really pretty gold shimmer and is perfect for brightening up your inner eye or for an all over shimmer-tastic look. They have amazing pigmentation and are definitely under €5 (unfortunately we can't find a price online anywhere, shocking stuff) but these beauts are definitely worth your pretty pennies!

Makeup Revolution I <3 Makeup Lip Geek £2.99
This stuff is brilliant! This particular lipstick is in the shade "I worked for it" and despite the picture it's not really that dark, it's more of a subtle vampy red lip and looks great with just about everything!
Plus these lipsticks are just £2.99 and who can say no to a lipstick that's this quality with that price tag. Not us anyway!
Take a look at Makeup Revolutions website here

Natural Cosmetics Pressed Powder €2.49
This stuff is brilliant! It is honestly the best pressed powder we've used, it lasts for ages on the skin and the packaging is so small and simple that it's perfect for bringing everywhere with you for touch-ups. Plus for under €3 how could you actually say no to it?
Buy it here

Primark Kabuki Brush €1.50
This is last but certainly not least, if you haven't picked one of these bad boys up from Primark, go get it right now! These brushes are so incredibly soft and an amazing price! They are the perfect companion for the Natural Cosmetics powder for on the go makeup and fit brilliantly into nearly every travel makeup bag we own. These are a definite favourite for us!

Have you tried any of these? What's your fav budget-friendly product?
